>About Aspen

Aspen is located in west-central Colorado, surrounded by the Elk Mountains’ peaks. Aspen’s four extraordinary mountains—Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk, and Snowmass—make it one of the most coveted ski destinations in the world. Located southwest of Denver, Aspen is a three to four-hour drive from Denver, depending on the season and traffic.

During the ski season, travelers should plan for at least four hours, however, and often longer depending on weather and traffic. If you’re flying into Denver, that can make for a full day of travel from many North America cities. By flying directly into Aspen, travelers can be to world-class slopes just minutes after landing.

Aspen/Pitkin County Airport (ASE) is located just three miles from downtown Aspen and six miles from Snowmass Village, making it a no-brainer to fly into Aspen. Once you’ve flown into Aspen, you don’t even need a car thanks to the Silver Queen Gondola in downtown Aspen and a plethora of shuttles and transportation options. Skiers and snowboarders have easy access to 5,300 acres of terrain spread across 4 world-class resorts. In addition to world-class ski resorts, Aspen is home to world-class hotels. Check out our picks of the top Aspen hotels.

Need to Know Information

It’s no secret that a ski trip can often take a little bit more planning and preparation. And that’s particularly the case when flying into a destination like Aspen that has a smaller airport and is prone to winter weather. We recommend booking your flights as far in advance as possible. Those weekend flights in and out of Aspen fill up quickly, and especially on holiday weekends.

Finally, no matter where you’re flying in and out of, we recommend giving yourself some extra time. Winter weather, traffic, and the time to check ski gear and get through security can all be unpredictable. For one less thing to think about, consider shipping your skis or snowboard.
