A new ski season brings with it new terrain, lifts, improvements, and more. Out West, a few resorts around the Lake Tahoe region are showcasing new updates for the 2023/24 season, with more significant changes coming to ski resorts further south. What New in the Far West
Palisades Tahoe introduces a new parking reservation system for the 2023/24 season. While most parking spots are available for free reservations, paid reservations guarantee secure parking in advance. Reservations are only required on specific dates, usually weekends and holidays, and can be booked starting the Tuesday prior to the weekend you’re planning to visit.
The community-owned Diamond Peak resort near Incline Village, Nevada, will showcase its newly remodeled food court boasting a more intuitive layout and greater efficiency for resort kitchen staff. Mt. Rose, a fellow Nevada resort, will open a new deck at the top of the Lakeview Express lift and a heated ramp from the parking lot to the ticket window. Mt. Rose also purchased two new snow grooming machines and two new snowmaking towers, improving its capacity to keep up with the rest of the Lake Tahoe ski areas.
Rounding out the Lake Tahoe updates is Sugar Bowl. Sugar Bowl is celebrating its 85th anniversary this season, and with it, is opening a new ski racing speed venue. Additionally, there’s a new warming hut and upgraded venues at the Sugar Rush tubing and snow play park.
Big Bear Mountain Resort sees a complete renovation of its food service warehouse that serves all three mountains: Bear Mountain, Snow Summit, and Snow Valley. The renovation of the sun deck at Bear Mountain is officially completed, including at 12,000-square-foot expansion with seating and fire pits. Plus, Laybacks Bar is now a full-service indoor/outdoor bar. Snow Valley installed a new parking lot, locker rooms, ski repair and rental shops.
Mammoth Mountain is making strides with its expansion plans. The new Canyon Express, set to open in the 23/24 season, provides faster access from Mammoth Mountain Canyon Lodge with an upgraded capacity, accommodating six skiers per ride. At Woolly’s Tube Park, phase two of its improvement plan is underway, including the beginning of a new day lodge.
