Northstar California’s terrain spans 3,170 acres and is designed to accommodate skiers of all abilities. The resort’s 100 trails are served by 20 lifts, including gondolas, high-speed quads, and surface lifts. With a base elevation of 6,330 feet and a summit of 8,610 feet, skiers enjoy a vertical drop of 2,280 feet across varied terrain. Snowmaking covers over half the resort, ensuring consistent conditions throughout the season.

Beginners will find gentle slopes off The Big Easy chairlift, particularly on Lower Lion’s Way, which is shaped for terrain-based learning. The mid-mountain base area is accessible via the Big Springs Gondola and offers easy access to green runs and ski school facilities. Riglet Park caters to children six and under, with small features designed for early progression.

Intermediate skiers dominate the resort’s layout, with 60% of trails marked blue. The Zephyr Express lift leads to well-groomed runs with stunning views, while Comstock Express reaches the summit and unlocks longer descents like East Ridge. This run also hosts tōst, a ski-up bubbly bar offering complimentary sparkling wine daily at 2 p.m.—a unique mid-slope experience.

Advanced skiers can explore Lookout Mountain and Martis Camp, where steeper terrain and tree-lined descents await. Burnout and White Rabbit are popular among experienced skiers, especially when fresh snow fills the gated glades. These areas offer a more technical challenge and are less trafficked than the frontside.

Freestyle enthusiasts will appreciate Northstar’s nine terrain parks, each tailored to different skill levels. Pinball Park features medium-sized jumps and rails, while Pipeline hosts the largest features, including two 18-foot halfpipes. Lil’ Stash and Moonshine offer smaller setups for those building confidence.

Natural features such as open bowls, ridgelines, and forested sections add character to the mountain. The longest run stretches 1.4 miles, offering a scenic and satisfying descent. Whether cruising groomers or seeking powder stashes, Northstar’s terrain diversity ensures a rewarding experience for every skier.
