Black Mountain of Maine is a 501(c)3 non-profit ski area that serves the local communities of Western Maine with affordable skiing and riding, while offering exceptional terrain that matches that of larger well known ski areas. The 600 acres of boundary-to-boundary skiing serves up an adventure that is unmatched and makes for exceptional value. The volunteer developed tree skiing is regarded as one of the best in New England when there is ample natural snow. Uphill skiing by way of a dedicated uphill trail provides access to the entire mountain's network of groomed runs, as well as backcountry glades and backcountry trails. There's even a backcountry gate that leads to Rumford Whitecap, a collaborative effort to connect multiple landowners over the span of 8 miles to tour. The mountain provides all amenities in a package that is very family friendly and affordable. The Last Run Pub is friendly and warm, offering up a chill vibe. The proximity to Portland is about 1-1/2 hour drive, and makes for an easy drive. There is virtually no wind lift holds due to mountain aspects and prevailing wind direction with respect to lift orientation. The ski area has drastically expanded and improved since the early 2000s, growing from 470' vertical to 1380' and a ever expanding amount of skiable terrain. Bottom line: This is not your father's Black Mountain of Maine. Fully recommend experiencing the difference of skiing a community supported ski area versus the corporate model offerings.
