Great mountain for families - plenty to choose from. Old fashioned ski resort vibe. Authentic. Amazing ski school and they have snowtubing too. Fun time all around and you don’t need to worry what lodge or what peak your kid is at… everything skis down to the one base area so great for kids .

Plattekill is THE place to go in NY during a good snow year. If there's a solid base down, Plattekill will be going off. They offer an "if you can see it you can ski it" policy, and the resort and volunteers maintain a ton of interesting, technical gladed trails which you have to do some research to find. This is definitely a locals mountain. Meet somebody on the lift who skis here regularly and get them to show you the best spots. On a powder day, Plattekill can't be beat for gladed terrain and a great, old-school ski bum locals atmosphere. The bar in the lodge is a great place to keep the fun going as well. It's got a great old school vibe going for it, and is definitely a unique spot.
When the conditions are right, Plattekill can rival any mountain on the East Coast for terrain in terms of steepness and technicality. It's smaller, but rides much bigger due to its terrain policy. That being said, being in the Catskills and much further south than mountains in Vermont, NH or Maine, it doesn't get the same opportunities for snowfall, so timing a trip can be difficult. It's also on the far west side of the Catskill Mountains, meaning it gets the most snowfall annually of all the Catskills resorts (about 200 inches/year on a good year) but its also far from... everything.
All in all, Plattekill is a great, unique gem of a mountain that provides an incredible experience during high snowfall years. Terrain and atmosphere combine to make this a must visit when Mother Nature provides the goods.

I have been meaning to go here with some friends and we finally. The terrain is absolutely wonderful. While the place does lean towards expert skiers, there is great learning and intermediate terrain for everyone. It is such a safe and welcoming place, a true community that I plan to become a member of. To summarize it, I got a slice of pizza and the woman at the register thought the slice was too small, so she took a dollar off. I then went downstairs to get my skies tuned and waxed and he thought my skis were in great condition, “save the money and do something else”, so I donated to the ski patrol raffle. This place is a gem, especially for families and expert skiers. You can tell that a family owns and runs the place, you are home.

By far this is my favorite ski area in the east. Never a lift line. Ski an entire run and you may be the only visible skier. I live in New Jersey's only ski town but I gladly travel two plus hours most Fridays to ski Plattekill. Conditions are always great, staff is always great, Food is even great
As you can tell, just an all around great hometown ski area. I have been skiing here for forty five years . Hope to ski it for another forty five !!!

The only place to ski in the Catskills after a bombing blizzard! Never any lift lines even on the most crowded of holiday periods, excellent off-piste terrain, and terrific terrain options when there is an abundance of natural snow. When natural snow is scarce, you will want to consider another area as only the triple-lift side of the mountain has appreciable snow-making, imposing considerable limitations on the choice of trails.
That said, this place is the best, with ample seating in the pub, a very user-friendly rental service, friendly staff, and affordable lift tickets.
