A ski resort's overall star rating displayed here is not calculated based on a simple average but takes several factors, including the age of a review, into account.
The MT has made so many improvements over the past 10 years. Still the best value for intermediate skiing in our area. Trails are well groomed, lodge is comfortable and prices are reasonable.

Best mountain to ever exist. Let me explain, west mountain has the most fun trails, awesome staff, and pretty good food too

Great mountain for beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders. Can get a little boring for expert level skiers and snowboarders. The summit conditions are very good most of the time. I haven’t been to west mountain when the wind gets over 12 mph. 100% lighted trails so they can be open in the evening instead of closing in the afternoon. It’s hard to compare Gore and West because Gore is just on a different level but I digress. west is a good mountain all round because of how local it is and it’s quality skiing experience.

I would give it 0 stars. Go to lake placid or elsewhere. Incredibly rude staff, condescending, no one answers the phones, terrible experience all around

West is one of those rare gems that need to be preserved. It’s the local mountain that gives great value and offers respite from the crowds on otherwise crazy holiday weekends. That being said, I was just there on Presidents’ Day weekend and there was never a wait for a chairlift even though the locals said it was “busy”. Great apres ski with an outdoor fire and watching ski racing in the afternoon. My only demerit and it’s a big one is that there was no entry beginner terrain. Usually there is a meandering green that’s great for beginner skiers, but most of the greens here had some steep blue sections that derailed our entry green group, 8 kindergarteners. The bunny hill is terribly overcrowded though they have a carpet on one side and a tow rope on the other. Overall, I put this place up there with Magic as one of those places that offer great value away from crowds

West Mountain is a lot of things. It's great beginners mountain to learn to ski or ride, most if not all trails are usable at night, great snow-making on most if not all trails. It is also very small, the facilities are bare bones, and the terrain doesn't change all that much or is all that challenging. There are improvements being made with the new management, especially replacing that awful double chair to the summit.
It is heading in the right direction. Just avoid it during the holiday periods and either go further north to Gore/Iceface, Vermont to the bigger mountains, or south to some of the resorts in the Catskills. The mountain cannot handle large crowds in its current configuration. However, at night on a non-holiday weeknight, its a locals paradise.
If the triple chair by the other parking lot gets replaced as planned, maybe the mountain can be a nice hole in the wall 1 hour from Albany every day during the season. Until then, its a good place to get the fix while waiting for the weekend or for a family looking to not spend as much compared to other places in the area.

With totally new ownership and management taking over 2 years ago, the positive signs are eveeywhere. New triple chair to summit this year replaced the nasty old centerpost double.
New trail, Gnarwall, extends down from it. Marked blue, but Feels like a single black.
New & improved terrain park. Improved school and racing programs. Improved restaurant/lounge overlooking main slopes. When El Nino finally gives em a break, this place will shine as the great small family-oriented which it is becoming.

Excellent mountain, and value. Really pleased with the improvements and looking forward to continued investment

Overall great mountain, fantastic lodge and resturant, next year for 2016-17 they will be adding another lodge and lift. The runs are great, not much advanced terrain, but great bombing and carving. Brand new snowmaking and lighting, great learning program.
