Best resort for Madness, not for the light hearted
It's a challenge
None - unless you can't ski - but why would you be there?

Great club field for ski enthusiasts. Best big mountain skiing in Nz
fantastic steep faces, bowls and chutes. Great company, Lodge and day lodge
Harder than your average resort
Craigieburn is a gift from the snow gods. Found in the Craigieburn Ranges of the Southern Alps a ninety minute drive from Christchurch International airport in New Zealand. Don't expect any big mountain resort or high speed chairlifts, Craigieburn is a tow rope accessed back country club field owned and operated by the Craigieburn Ski Club for decades. There's no grooming, just double blackdiamond style terrain all around with a ridge to hike to get to the good stuff and a mid mountain day lodge with a sun drenched deck to watch your mates tackle the chutes and powder. Accommodatin is basic, bunk style share rooms with a communal shower and toilet area and a generator that runs for two hours in the morning and five hours at night. Everyone eats together in the main lodge where there's a chores board for folks to pitch in with cooking and cleaning and the bar will stay open if there's more than eight people drinking so make new friends. Economical and remote, it's not for those who don't like to earn their turns but a week here and you'll make friends for life. Your skiing will improve beyond belief too, it will have to.
