Snow Pride weekend, the place was very busy with the sun shining & warm weather, plus Pee Wee races, Sunday on Cheval Blanc, arrived early & skied until 11:30 am, got my 14 runs in & packed it in, just too many kids on the slopes, zig zagging here, there & everywhere.. the conditions were nice, soft groomed snow, no ice.. the plastic knives & forks in the restaurant, really go to GO..

The Holiday long weekend in Ontario brought out all the skiers, started to get real crowded around 10:30 am, the parking lot was full. The skiing was great, all the runs are open with lots of freshly groomed snow. The lodge should start up the outdoor BBQ in the warm weather, & a Hotel is badly needed in this region. Maybe open up some new trails & install a new lift? It's called Ski Resort operational progress? At 1800 ft, Mont St Marie has the best & longest runs in the Ottawa Gatineau region. 1 hr from downtown Ottawa.

Arrived early & had Breakfast in the Lodge. Giant Slalom racing today at Cheval Blanc so things were fairly busy, the conditions are great, real nice skiing although a little frosty at 9 am, -25c, the sun came out mid morning & warmed things up a little. All trails are open & groomed.. another great day out on the slopes in the fresh air.

Was at the Mountain at 8:15, I had the full Breakfast in the Lodge, with tax etc. $9:45, a little heavy on the home frys, but lots of Bacon, coffee is included.. was nice breakfast before skiing at 9 am., Conditions were real nice on Vanier, lots of snow, sun was shining, it's too bad the Mountain operations can't get Caroll Ann & Tornade open, It's almost February & lots of snow, but still not open? Cheval Blanc was a little more hard pack granule, should be a busy weekend at MSM, apparently the Canadian Military were arriving today for a weekend of skiing & Party..

Skiing today was not great, but not Bad, only 2 runs are open on Vanier, from top to Bottom, much snow is needed & snow making, it's funny that MSM doesn't step it up a notch, make more snow, better grooming & build a hotel.. the parking lot should be graded & gravel put down, very icey rutted mess, lots of puddles of water, It started raining, I packed it in after 8 runs.. disappointing, I thought that the mountain would be in better condition with more runs open.

No lineups, fast chairs, family oriented, just 50 minutes from Ottawa with the largest vertical drop with in an hour of Ottawa.

This was our first visit to Mt. Ste. Marie, Quebec. The conditions on the 2 middle hills are good and well groomed. It is mainly man-made snow. So, the runs are limited...I would have preferred more runs. The price of lift tickets is slashed because of this...yay!! Everyone is so friendly. All staff are bilingual. The food is terrific. Tons of parking. No line-ups. I would like to return when all runs are open..It is a wonderful family-oriented resort. If I were driving a distance i.e., from Toronto, I would definately wait until there is full snow coverage before coming next time. We went to the bar 2 evenings and found the aprè ski entertainment was top-notch and lots of fun. ***Try the poutine! The fries are skinny and cheese plentiful. It is the best I have ever tasted.

Skied MSM today in -30's frost bite weather.. seems to be lots of snow, but as usual.. 3 weeks into winter and only 3 or 3 runs were open today.. they have a new Snow Cat.. unfortunately they don't have it out on the hills enough.. hopefully more runs will be open soon.. only Vanier today and the Poma lift.. really only 2 runs from the top are open.. we have had lots of natural snow and they were making snow.. but the usual, runs not open.. when they say 6 runs open.. divide by 2..

$33 for a full day of great skiing on Friday, Feb. 10th, arrived at 8:30 am, full breakfast in the lodge as usual, I usually bring my own steel knife & fork as I can't stand using flimsy plastic utensils.. Vanier was completely empty of skiers when I hit the slopes at 9 am, Exhibition and all the runs were open with corduroy groomed conditions.. skied 10 runs on Vanier then over to Cheval Blanc for another 7 runs.. all runs were open and in good shape, again very light crowds for a Friday, Skied Dustin Cook twice and tried the Giant Slalom course which was being set up for the weekend races.. overall a real nice day..
Departed at 1 pm

Another great day out at Mont Ste Marie, I usually arrive early for full breakfast in the Lodge, $9 for 2 eggs, bacon or sausages, toast, coffee.. home fries and baked beans, bring your own utensils., otherwise you will be eating with the small plastic utensils that are provided.. very cold early today, -24.. not crowded.. snow was hard pack corduroy, making lots of snow on Vanier, got crowded with lots of kids and ski schools around 10:30 am, free skiing weekend for kids under the age of 12.. Cheval Blanc was good., Betsy was in good shape, always weekend races on the new run.. I have yet to try it.. as it is always being used for ski races.
