Could not believe how good the snow was on March 17th with many places not too far away basically skiing on dirt. So many opportunities to dip into the woods. It's a smaller no frills mountain with a lot of good variety. Can't wait to go again.
Woods/glades galore, good variety, good value
Bit of a drive from points south.

Had a great day skiing at Bolton Valley. In some ways it is old school (no high speed chair lifts), but it has a wide variety of terrain--glades, wooded areas, and fun trails. Loved that you could buy a pass that allowed you to ski from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.
nice variety of trails

Bolton Valley is a nice, family friendly resort. We had the unfortunate experience of being teamed with an unfriendly, unprofessional, and outright rude ski instructor-Jazzzzzzmiiiin. Wow, no thank you

Small Indy old school vibe. How skiing used to be! Real fireplaces and woodstoves, a Pizza Bar and a Tavern! It's Heaven!
People, Level of skier, challenging terrain, on and off piste

Awesome Mountain with 70+ trails! The Night Skiing is sometihng most mountains don't have, and skiing as the sun sets and into the night is a great eperience. The right combination of many trails, and short lift lines as well. Family Owned, always a plus!

If you want a resort that puts zero effort into guest safety, then Bolton Valley is the place for you. Zero enforcement of mask rules? Check. Completely iced over walkways, stairs, and parking lots? Check.
It isn't even cheap anymore

We had a great experience at Bolton Valley! As pretty novice skiiers, we wanted to get an immersive weekend experience acclimating to cross country and then back country skiing. For our first day, we did a one hour cross country ski lesson with Ali then hit the trails by ourselves. Ali was very patient and instructive! For our second and third days, we were fortunate enough to work with Milan one-on-one. He provided us gear recommendations ahead of time and spent significant time teaching us how to work with our gear. We then worked on drills/skills the rest of the day, which upped our confidence. The third day was spent touring the beautiful trails at Bolton. Milan made sure to take us to some awesome spots. He was always patient with us and met us at our skill level. That being said, he also made sure to challenge us! Overall it was a great experience and we hope to be back!

What an awesome place to ski! I can't wait to go back. I visited for Christmas 2020, with the stated purpose of learning backcountry techniques. I bought a lesson from BV's resident ski mountaineering pro, Milan Kubala, and was delighted to go from total novice to skinning uphill in only a couple hours. The next day, I returned and skied uphill solo for the first time and absolutely loved it. Even with COVID restrictions, the resort is warm and welcoming, with plenty to explore.

This is honestly one of our favorite mountains in Vermont. We stayed there for MLK weekend and they received a good amount of snow. The parking lots were overflowing and there was still barely a line all day. This is not a fancy mountain. If you are looking for good natural terrain and no frills, it is a gem. When the other area mountains have 45 min lift lines and crowded runs, this is where we go. We are able to give our kids some freedom and enjoy ourselves as well.
Local spot and not crowded
Doesn't make a ton of snow

Learned how to ski here as a kid and had a season pass this year but won't be renewing. Arbitrary "wind holds" on Vista during the week to either save money or save snow for the weekends. Timberline only open sporadically. Wilderness lift was broken for 3/4 of the season. Closing 4/7 when there is plenty of snow and other area resorts are open until the end of April says it all. Going back to Smuggs next season.
Close to Burlington, cool bar, cool lifties
