A ski resort's overall star rating displayed here is not calculated based on a simple average but takes several factors, including the age of a review, into account.
If you want a good old fashion ski mountain, this is it. Narrow, twisting trails and some wider cruisers. A throwback to a purer time. It has something for everyone and it has a lot if you want to be challenged. This is the best family resort hands down. everyone is friendly and laid back. No high-speed lifts - just fixed grips that give you 15 minutes to enjoy the company of the person sitting next to you. The Red Chair is classic. We raised out kids on this mountain and now they can ski anywhere on any kind of snow. I love this place.

Okemo and Bromley are tame, stratton, has more money and attitude than average talent. (and 30,000 skiers and hour skiing ONE peak..)
Lift lines were pretty brutal on saturday,, 1500 people loading DOUBLES. I love a nice old double chair, REALLY love fixed grips, glad the quad isn't high speed but man they need it. The trails COULD have been less empty and it would have been fine. Busy day, EMPTY trails.
This is the kind of place that will remind you that trail ratings (as it says on most trail maps) are only a RELATIVE scale within THAT ski area. The blues at Magic would be blacks at Okemo and Bromley, while the double blacks at magic do not exist at Okemo and bromley.
Great tree skiing, great steeps, and really, properly steep- can do some real jump turns.
great vibe, no BS.
Lots of fun options for appropriately cautious beginners and intermediates who want to try something a little more hard core/old school/real deal. The blue glades are great! Very easy pitches, medium density of trees - just the kind of spot for figuring it all out on some nice spring corn snow.
The only reason I can think of to go to a bigger place is maybe wide-open super G turns, or a perfectly manicured mogul field (but there ARE plenty of moguls), or extensive terrain parks, or rich people nonsense. Water park, my ass!!! You will be ready for a nice hot tub session though

Magic Mountain has an amazing feel to it. Everybody is so friendly, makes for a wonderful community feeling. Skiing is pretty decent when the weather cooperates. Two different lifts that give you time to rest your legs before your next run, might be a little slow for some but the line waits are nowhere near as long as bigger mountains. The tavern has a great atmosphere, a good place to unwind and enjoy some food, drinks, and live music. Overall love this place

I don't think its cool to charge 70 bucks when there's only one lift open, especially how slow they move.

New peak lift in 2019-2020 season opens up more terrain and should reduce lines on busier snow days that plagued pay seasons. still one of the of the best mountains in mid-VT of you don't want to sit in lines all day long or fight with others for snow

My family has been skiing here for well over 30 years and we all love the warm and friendly atmosphere at Magic. The kids all went through the race program and it was terrific. The mountain has had their ups and downs but have a fantastic management group now in place. It is clear this group believes in investing in improvements unlike past management. I believe they are here for the long term.
If you are looking for glitz, glamour and fluff this is not the ski area for you but if you want down-home fun, challenging terrain, and fair prices then you have found your home.

My family has been coming to this mountain for years, with both myself and my father teaching skiing at Mount Snow. As great as Snow can be, going to a mountain dedicated to the art of natural Vermont skiing is always a fantastic time. Staff is helpful, and ski patrol will always help you find the best trails of the day. Be warned advanced/expert terrain at this mountain really means ADVANCED/EXPERT. These trails are steep, narrow, rocky, and dangerous. Extremely rewarding to the skilled skier, but a trip to the aid station for the cocky one. Test the greens and blues before venturing to harder trails if this is your first time at this mountain. Overall, Magic is a welcome breath of natural, classic Vermont skiing compared to the Killington, Stowe and Okemo vibes.

Great people, great mountain. Mad River and Magic, the best in Vermont.

This is my favorite mountains in Vermont and one of the oldest. Very nice slopes - very nice people. Really great place. Not far from two quaint towns, Londonderry and Chester, that have most anything you need.
