We spent a weekend at the Homestead. The ski instructor was wonderful, and it was nice that the place was not crowded. The prices, however, were totally unreasonable.
I learned to ski at The Homestead 25 years ago and I still love to ski. I find The Homestead to be so convenient to the Roanoke area. The runs were groomed to perfection last weekend; when the sun hit them, the snow was like velvet at the top. I have been skiing top to bottom mountain runs there every weekend since Christmas. I hope it's made me ready for a week of skiing at Lake Tahoe which is where I'm skiing next week. The Homestead is still the jewel of a resort that Sepp created so many years ago. The staff is always ready to help in any way they can; it's never crowded and no lift lines. I only wish that skiing were less expensive, but I can't think of anything else that gives me more fun for my money.
The Homestead is one of my family's favorite places to get away. It's VERY expensive, but the staff throughout the resort is terrific and, in the end, you get what you pay for so we don't mind spending the money to stay there given how beautiful it all is. As far as skiing is concerned, this is the perfect place to bring young kids to learn. There is nothing in the way of challenging terrain. We used to own a place in Bretton Woods NH, but haven't skied for 3+ years since moving to Northern VA. The kids were able to pick it up again in a snap and could handle every path on the mountain. Grooming was excellent so even on 90% man made stuff there was almost no ice. Typical East Coast conditions, but the staff at the mountain and resort are what make it worth the trip and the money.
WOnderful staff, treated my kids like they were there own! Great instructors for little kids!
We have been going every year with our kids for MLK weekend. Nice place for us to relax while the kids ski and tube. Not too challenging. Sam Sneads is one of our favorite places to grab a bite after a day of skiing.
Excellent place for families to come and for kids to learn how to ski. The resort is beautiful and has so much to do after you are done skiing. The resort even has a movie theatre and bowling.
