Reviews for Selwyn Snowfields

A ski resort's overall star rating displayed here is not calculated based on a simple average but takes several factors, including the age of a review, into account.
Buyer beware. Selwyn has set up terms and conditions which mean under no circumstances will they provide a refund or future credit (even if there is no snow and no lifts operating). If you are lucky enough for 'favourable weather conditions' you can have a great time learning on the hill. If you are visiting for the other 95% of the season you will find you got what you paid for. They boast being the cheapest while providing 2 runs at best. If you look at value, they are by far the most expensive. I would not recommend this 'resort' for anything but a great day bushwalking.

Had an enjoyable day on the snow with the family.
Cafe food options for lunch. Hired all equipment. Most staff were friendly but appeared to have issues with the fundamentals of English.
Unfortunately the one fluent English speaking staff member (brown haired female) was very rude to our children and attempted to make them share the chair lift with strangers. This person was monitoring the small chair lift today (26/7/23) between 1-2pm. She demanded my child acknowledge her when he ignored her request to share the chair lift with a stranger and then when he shut down told him that she was going to tell the upper end chair lift person that he was misbehaving. My child was just doing what we’ve told him. He was upset and disturbed for some time that he had done the wrong thing.
The toilets were not very clean and the hire equipment (Parka and pants) were pre worn and dirty. Skis and poles in good condition.
Bus loads of school children also arrived.
The male staff on the ski lifts appeared friendly and easy going.
Not as family friendly as we thought though.

I headed up to Selwyn at the start of August, I was pleased to find that the slopes were aimed for beginners as well as a couple of slopes for the more experienced. What let selwyn down more than anything else was the lack of buildings and undercover areas, this may have been more obvious due to the fact that it rained the entire time that I was there (talk about bad timing). The park seemed to be aimed more at the young family, as there was an abundance of young families all enjoying the snow. I found going to Selwyn was an enjoyable experience and will be returning to the slopes this weekend.
