Snow Reporter Comments: Today at Thredbo 19 August 2026 — Strong winds are the story today — expect them to affect operations on the upper mountain, so keep an eye on the Lift & Trail status through the day. Kosciuszko Chairlift, Basin T-Bar, Karels T-Bar, Antons T-Bar, Sponars T-Bar, Easy Does It Chairlift, Merritts Gondola, Wombats Snow Runner, Gunbarrel Chairlift, Cruiser Chairlift, Easy Rider T-Bar, Syd's Snow Runner and Freddie's Snowsports Snow Runner are expected to open today, with Merritts Gondola also running for scenic passengers accessing Merritts Mountain House. It's becoming cloudy up top with a very high chance of rain later this afternoon and evening, winds building from 20–30km/h to 40–60km/h from the northwest, and a top of 5°C. Down in the village, expect morning frost and patchy fog clearing to a milder top of 11°C, with showers most likely about the alpine peaks. On the runs, High Noon, Ballroom, Squatters Run, Valley View and Walkabout are open and groomed in the Cruiser area; Rossignol Race Course, Sundowner, Supertrail, Upper Supertrail, World Cup and Eagle Way are running at Crackenback; and Basin Run and Exhibition are open at Basin & Karels and Central Spur respectively. The road to Thredbo remains open, and Disc Golf, the Alpine Coaster and Thredbo Leisure Centre are all running as normal — a good day to mix in some village activities if the wind keeps you off the top lifts. Grab a warming feed at The Local Pub between laps. Showers and possible snow return from Thursday as the wind eases, with the Bureau calling for snow showers Friday.
