My family and I came for some family fun. My two sons were beginners so my wife & I were hoping for some guidance. After a 1/2 hour on the bunny hill we tried a lift at #6 around 10am.
I told the man at the lift ahead of time that my 9 year old was new & I needed some help getting him on with me. The man indicated he was "slowing down" the lift, but he did not. As my son & I were having trouble getting to the lift he quickly threw him on without me and my terrified son started moving without me.
I assumed they would immediately stop the lift but they continued. I institutionally yelled stop and grabbed the chair he was on and asked to stop. I acknowledge I shouldn't have grabbed it as it pulled my son off and it nearly hit him in the head but my wife and I were flabbergasted at the fact they didn't stop the lift when they saw what happened. What happened afterwards was even worse. Right after, they stopped the lift then both men, instead of apologizing, started berating me in front of our two sons. Considering I didn't want to cause anymore of a scene I let it go. After I went on the lift my wife witnessed the men continuing to insult me & family in front of my other son and people surrounding me. She asked them to stop but they continued on.
Considering the fact you are charging over $500 for a family of four to ski with rentals I would think you would at least train your workers to be professional, especially with families. I hope your management would at least consider talking to these two individuals. Everyone else was helpful and considerate other than these two which nearly ruined our day. We were so upset with these two we were considering other ski resorts in the future. I tried to keep this between us and management but they didn't even respond to my email. It's apparent they do not care

Perfect for beginner and intermediate skiers, advanced skiers will like it too. But the next level skiers. Definitely not Colorado terrain.

My friends and family have gone to Big Powderhorn twice a year since 1977. At that time the Old Lodge was still in existence. Every cashier, staff worker and maintenance were your friends. At that time Louie Geller was the Manager and what a great guy he was. Every time we would arrive at our particular chalet, we would find a fruit and cheese basket waiting for us! I do not ski anymore as I am 80, but now my grandchildren are being treated to the wonderful times of Big Powderhorn. May their children also be part of the Powderhorn history. My favorite eating place has always been Alpen Inn. This year (2016) I will be going to dinner or lunch again at the Alpen Inn. Can't say nothing has changed, as I still miss the Old Main Lodge, but time progresses and new is good.

I have always loved Big Powderhorn Mountain, I learned how to ski there. It was 1970 or 1971 on the bunny hill (they had the double rope tow). And I still ski there to this day! The resort has had many upgrades over the years which have made it an even better place to ski. My only disappointment is that the main lodge burned down which really saddened me, (let alone the hundreds of friends who also skied there). It was a very beautiful building with a huge fireplace and it gave you the warmth and feeling of family. I will always remember the fun times I had their. I fully recommend Big Powderhorn Mountain for your skiing pleasure

Big Powderhorn Mountain Resort is a great resort with lots of lodging available at base and on the mountain. They treat guests as friends and provide a great skiing experience. The mountain has terrain for all abilities and a great ski and snowboard school. My family has been coming to the resort for 30+ years and it just keeps getting better. The food and the Hideout and the Cafeteria are a great value! Give it a try. We will continue to 'up north' for our families skiing fun.

It had been raining in most of the Midwest so we changed plans from going to Boyne to going to here because there had been no rain. It snowed 2 or 3 inches the night before and snowed in the morning making the runs a pleasure. The lack of crowds preserved the good conditions all the way from morning to night skiing until 8. Night skiing was free with a day lift ticket. We lucked out with a two for one lift tickets deal with a school id. The two night skiing runs were fun, the more advanced blues on the middle hill.

Spring skiing in the U.P. is the best! Big Powderhorn Mountain served up a snow on a platter! Snow was fast, the sun was warm and everyone was enjoying the 100% open ski terrain. I would recommend the ski school as my 5 year-old son loves his instructors and has made great advances this year in his skiing ability. The food at the Hideout is great and reasonable for any ski area, and the service is excellent as well.
If you are looking for a family friendly resort that is easy driving from Milwaukee or Chicago, Big Powderhorn is it.
Skied with my family 4 times at Big Powderhorn in February, 2013. Each weekend was better than the last. Great grooming! The runs are perfect with some powder stashes left on some runs for those of us who like that. The terrain is great for families like ours with skiers of different abilities. We never really needed to seperate much because of the variety. We will be back in March!

My boyfriend and I have visited the UP for skiing a few times this year (2013) already and plan to go back up one more time. We've been to a coule places skiing up there, and the skiing at Big Powderhorn Mountain has been really fun. We love the new lodge! It's so nice. It was also our first experience for any sort of powder skiing and had a blast because they had just had about 4 feet of snow in the past couple weeks before we came. Most of their trails are groomed, but there's a few that aren't, and it is so fun!! We enjoyed the versatility of their hills and thought this would be a nice place to bring friends/family, etc, so we bought the season pass for next year already since it was on sale. Can't wait to go back soon!

Great skiing!! Came with my teenage kids who race and they loved it too. No lift lines and perfect grooming. Slightly inconsistent ratings on their blue runs, felt some should be green and others should have been black.
