A ski resort's overall star rating displayed here is not calculated based on a simple average but takes several factors, including the age of a review, into account.
A great family friendly ski area. Even young kids (as young as 5 or 6) can go off on their own. Nearly impossible to get lost. Lift operators are very helpful. Instructors are patient. A really great place to learn to ski or snowboard as well.
I took my 6-1/2 yr old son up to Treetops for a father/son weekend. We had a great time. He hit all the runs, which was nice. Lines were not too bad and the hotel, restaurant & warming haus were all right there. The only negative was that the rooms at the Inn need updting. Other than that, great place for a little ski getaway, especially with the kids.
I was very happy with the overall value that I received going to Treetops. They really seem to have found their nitch of catering to families and not trying compete with the larger resorts that surround them. There must have been a management change in the last two years as their operation, staff and cleanliness has improved a lot.
Our family went tubing and had an absolute blast. Quite a value at less than $10 per person for a FULL 1 1/2 hours.
If you're looking for a resort with hills that are not imtimidating for those in your group that are new to skiing but still with its fair share of challenging terrain, it's a great place to go.
I learned to ski at treetops a couple years ago when our company had a discount there. The lodging there is great, both the "chalets" and the main hotel are both great. The prices on the rooms aren't bad for northern michigan either.
The lift tickets are fairly expensive when you look at what you get for michigan vertical/acres/runs. The lift lines have never been too long, and the hill isn't so high as to need a high speed chair.
The runs are ok, not super challenging but decent. Not bad for a place this size. It is a nice break from the bigger mountains up north and is a little bit quieter if you're looking for more serenity and less punk kids (ha). There is also a nice little restaurant at the top of the hill to grab a drink or two at during the day.
Overall, not a bad place to go. Especially if you use the lodging. You won't miss the crowded mountains and you can relax in the pools or spa as well to complete your stay.
