Snow Reporter Comments: Mt. Ashland Ski Area Will Pause Ski Area Operations Indefinitely
Beginning January 15, 2026
Beginning Thursday, January 15, 2026, Mt. Ashland Ski Area is forced to pause Ski Operations indefinitely due to low snowpack, warm weather in the forecast and no snowfall projected. All terrain and chairlifts are closed.
Thank you always to our mountain community for the stoke under these circumstances. We are so grateful for the countless guests who approached us with smiles and kind words of encouragement. It kept us going as our teams worked so hard to open up terrain and keep what we could open.
Lift tickets, rentals and lessons purchased for the coming days will be refunded so if you have purchased, please keep an eye on your email inbox.
If your child is involved in the School & Youth Group Learn-to-Ski Program, our School Group Program Coordinator will be contacting your Volunteer Coordinators in the event dates need to be adjusted.
Once the snow flies, we will see you on the Mountain!
Until then we will be monitoring the forecast and snow levels and keep you all updated.
Mt. Ashland, just north of the California border, is halfway between San Francisco and Portland, eight 8 miles off Interstate 5. The runs and lifts are named after Shakespeare plays and characters, with Balcony and Upper Balcony (at 7,500 feet) overlooking them all. The day lodge is Elizabethan, naturally. There are some excellent bump runs, but Mt. Ashland's specialty is a cirque, a giant glacial bowl that is corniced, steep, and demanding. Double-black stuff. A casual observer might consider Mt. Ashland less than challenging, with only four chairlifts, two of which serve the higher elevations, and only 1,150 feet of vertical drop. The locals say, "It skis a lot bigger than it looks."
