Aspen / Snowmass is served by Aspen/Pitkin County Airport (ASE), located just 3 miles from downtown Aspen and 6 miles from Snowmass Village. The airport offers direct flights from major hubs and is supported by free shuttle services, courtesy vans from most lodges, and frequent RFTA buses connecting the airport to all four mountains. For those flying into Denver International Airport (DEN), Eagle County Airport (EGE), or Grand Junction Regional Airport (GJT), private shuttles like Roaring Fork Express and CO West Transportation provide scheduled and on-demand transfers.
Once in-resort, free bus service operates between Aspen and Snowmass Village, with stops at key lift stations, lodging areas, and downtown attractions. The Rubey Park Transit Center in Aspen serves as the main hub for local routes. Ski-in/ski-out access is available at many properties, and parking is offered at base areas with options for overnight and day use. Aspen / Snowmass features 108.2 miles of skiable terrain across four mountains, each with its own character and appeal. Snowmass is the largest, offering wide-open slopes, long cruisers, and family-friendly zones. Aspen Mountain is known for steep descents and mogul runs, while Aspen Highlands delivers high-alpine challenges and scenic ridgelines. Buttermilk caters to beginners and freestyle riders, with gentle terrain and world-class terrain parks.
Beginners will find their footing at Buttermilk, where mellow slopes and surface lifts create a safe learning environment. The Panda Hill and West Buttermilk areas are ideal for first-timers, with access to ski school and rental services. Snowmass also offers beginner terrain near Elk Camp and the Treehouse Kids&rsquo; Adventure Center.
Intermediate skiers can explore blue runs across all four mountains. Snowmass features long cruisers like Sneaky&rsquo;s and Blue Grouse, while Aspen Highlands offers rolling terrain on Memory Lane and Broadway. Aspen Mountain&rsquo;s Silver Bell and Copper Bowl provide scenic descents with moderate pitch.

Avoid lift lines by skiing Aspen Highlands midweek. The terrain is challenging but quiet, and the views from Loge Peak are spectacular. The hike to Highland Bowl is worth it for the untouched snow and dramatic scenery. For scenic views, ride the Silver Queen Gondola to the top of Aspen Mountain and walk to the Sundeck. The facility is well-staffed and designed for comfort and convenience. Apr&egrave;s-ski is lively at Ajax Tavern, located at the base of Aspen Mountain. The outdoor patio is perfect for sunny afternoons, and the truffle fries are a local favorite. Live music and a relaxed vibe make it a top choice. For a quiet lunch, book a table at Cloud Nine Alpine Bistro on Aspen Highlands. It&rsquo;s known for fondue, champagne, and mountain views. Reservations are essential, and the atmosphere is festive and intimate. Night skiing isn&rsquo;t available, but evening activities include ice skating at Snowmass Base Village and live music at Belly Up Aspen. The venue hosts national acts and offers an intimate concert experience just steps from the slopes. Advanced skiers should link Sneaky&rsquo;s to Garrett Gulch at Snowmass for a fast, technical descent. The terrain is varied and flows well, with natural rollers and tree-lined sections. It&rsquo;s best skied before 14:00 for optimal conditions. End your day with a run down Copper Bowl on Aspen Mountain. The snow softens in the afternoon, and the descent offers wide turns and sunset views. Locals often time their final lap here to catch the last light over the valley.
